Join Starkville Swing Dance on Saturday nights for beginner-friendly swing dance lessons and events! We focus on the lindy hop, a fun, energetic partner dance that originated to jazz music in the 30s and 40s and is danced around the world today. Events are free, and are open to anyone, including MSU affiliates (undergrad students, grad students, faculty, and staff) and community members. No partner, experience, or coordination required – bring your friends! TIME: We meet on Saturday nights at 6:30pm. We do a beginner lesson from 6:30-8:00pm, and then we have time after to dance, practice, or just hang out. LOCATION/GETTING INTO THE BUILDING/UPDATES: Events are in Simrall Hall (Room 104, on MSU campus), but the doors are locked so you will need to phone/text the teacher for that day to get let into the building. Since teachers may change, make sure to check our Group Me or Facebook page (links below) each week to confirm who is teaching that day and get their contact info, and also to confirm whether we are still on or had to cancel. (Facebook events or cancellation posts are usually posted mid-week. Group Me reminders are sent out Saturday morning/early afternoon.) Note that Cowbell Connect is NOT updated in case of cancellation. PARKING: Parking is free on Sundays all across MSU campus, and there are several parking lots nearby. The closest parking is street parking on Herbert Street directly behind Simrall Hall. (You can walk around from there to the side doors on the north side of the building to get let in.)
